Salesforce CPQ is dead. Long live CPQ.

Born as Steelbrick and later transitioning under several rebrands, ‘Salesforce CPQ’ is no longer available to new customers.

Sales technology evolves rapidly. To stand still is to go backwards.

But even in this fast-evolving, sometimes a major player throws a curve-ball.

Who could have predicted that the titan of CPQ in Salesforce – Salesforce CPQ – the app that was once the go-to solution for quote-to-cash implementations in Salesforce had reached the end of it’s commercial life?

That’s a huge pivot in Salesforce’s go-to-market strategy.

And a warning to all who embrace their technology.

For over a decade, Salesforce dragged a $360m product that was rich in legacy functionality and high the need for intricate customization, ever closer to being a ‘core’ product.

But couldn’t make it go all the way.

Granted, it helped companies with highly complex pricing, quoting, and contracting needs deliver a streamlined solution.

But over the years, the talk on the ground was that as a product, it was gradually become more cumbersome than cutting-edge.

  • Customers frustrated with implementations that failed to deliver.
  • Projects that took too long.
  • Projects that never finished!

The solution? A complete reset. Enter Revenue Cloud, Salesforce’s new, all-encompassing monetization platform.

But here’s the twist: for thousands of businesses that spent years investing in Salesforce CPQ, this pivot is nothing less than a devastating disruption rather than a evolution.

Revenue Cloud: A New Era or Just a New Name?

Revenue Cloud is Salesforce’s vision for the future—a modular ecosystem that blends CPQ, billing, subscription management, and revenue recognition into a single, unified platform – all on ‘core’ Salesforce.

On paper, it’s ambitious. In practice, it’s a re-platforming exercise that asks businesses to effectively throw away their configuration on CPQ and undertake a migration to Revenue Cloud.

And that’s not straightforward.  There’s no magic button to press to extract, transform and load your configuration and data from CPQ to Revenue Cloud.

  • For customers, it’s a complete rebuild.
  • And full data migration.
  • And disruptive change management.

And this change is all to migrate to a “Cloud” which, based on what’s happen to CPQ… could itself be made end of life itself at some point.

Some are left wondering… if we need to rebuild from scratch, why not make it simpler.  Is Revenue Cloud the right answer?

Flexpricer CPQ: Elegance Without the Overhead

For businesses seeking a simpler and arguably smarter way forward, Flexpricer CPQ offers an interesting and compelling alternative.

Born in Sales Cloud and still in Sales Cloud, Flexpricer expands the Cloud that’s existed for as long as Salesforce.

It’s flips the narrative.

It’s not about complexity. It’s about clarity.  And simplicity.

Flexpricer installs in minutes from AppExchange – not months like a CPQ build.

It’s fully native to Salesforce and requires zero middleware, zero code-filled configuration, and zero tolerance for bloated processes.

Instead, it delivers out-of-the-box pricing and quoting power that’s refreshingly fast and intuitive.

Sales teams love it because it works the way they do: fast, agile, and reliable.

Pricing rules, discount controls, product bundling—everything just clicks. No labyrinthine setup. No consultants on retainer. Just a powerful tool that empowers reps to quote and close without friction.

Trusted by Thousands, Built for the Future

Today, thousands of sales professionals across the globe rely on Flexpricer to build quotes, manage pricing, and accelerate revenue. And they do so without wading through legacy baggage or navigating forced migrations.

While Salesforce CPQ fades into the annals of CRM history, Flexpricer is rapidly becoming the gold standard for modern quoting.

Its Lightning Web Component is elegant and fits perfectly into Lightning Design.  Its support – when needed – is world-class, and its vision is sharply aligned with what businesses actually need: results without the drama.

A Farewell and a Welcome

The end of Salesforce CPQ marks the close of an important chapter in the evolution of sales tech. But this isn’t a time for nostalgia. It’s a moment of clarity. The tools that got us here aren’t necessarily the ones that will take us forward.

CPQ is dead. Long live CPQ.

And long live the tools—like Flexpricer—that honor the original spirit of CPQ while reimagining it for the realities of today.
