Volume Pricing & Discounts in Salesforce

It’s a natural process in a sales negotiation: when the volume goes up, the price comes down. But trying to do this automatically in Salesforce using the standard product selector is painful.  Flexpricer’s Volume Pricing  in Salesforce (including Volume Discounts) make it insanely easy.

  • Define scalable price changes to be made at multiple quantities
  • Or define scalable discounts to be applied when any quantity is reached
  • Price and discount are updated in real-time so the user immediately sees the effect

Businesses no longer need to worry about training users on the various prices or discounts to apply for each product in their portfolio and risk the wrong discount or price being applied. With Volume Pricing & Discounts from Flexpricer, it’s configured there in Salesforce and applied automatically.

What is Volume Pricing in Salesforce and why is it useful?

In Sales Cloud, you select a Product using a basic interface to add it to a Quote or Opportunity.

There is no flexibility to automatically see different prices based on the quantity selected.

Flexpricer extends Sales Cloud with out-of-the-box Volume Pricing CPQ functionality that allows you to specify multiple prices for a product – with a price being applied based on the quantity (volume) selected on the line item.

You can choose to set either volume prices and volume discounts, with different prices and discounts per product and apply given for a given currency and/or pricebook.

Sales Price Change or Apply Discount

Flexpricer’s Volume Pricing & Discounts follows this standard model from Salesforce…

  • Volume Pricing changes the Sales Price of product for a given quantity.  This can be used to both increase and decrease the price of a product.
  • Volume Discounts applies an automatic discount percentage to the product for a given quantity.  The Sales Price is not changed.  Discount percentages can only decrease the price of a product.
  • In standard Salesforce, the discount percentage is applied to the sales price – and this creates the final price for the line item.

Pricebook Volume Prices

If your business prices using multiple pricebooks, you may wish to set volume prices and discounts on a per-product-per-pricebook basis.

Flexpricer is Pricebook-aware and offers a simple solution…

  • To apply a new sales price or discount for a product in every pricebook, leave the Pricebook lookup empty
  • To apply a new sales price or discount that’s specific to a pricebookentry, populate the Pricebook lookup with the pricebook
  • A Pricebook-specific Volume Price / Discount record is used in preference to a non-Pricebook-specific record

Interaction with other Features

Contracted Volume Prices allow you to specify volume prices that are specific to an Account when working alongside Flexpricer’s Contracted Pricing feature.

Dimensional Volume Prices allow you to specify volume prices and discounts that are applied to only one dimension of Flexpricer’s Dimensional Quantities feature.

These interactions enable you to quickly build powerful pricing solutions across a range of use cases.

Volume Pricing is commonly used by companies to drive consistency in sales users when scalably changing the price of a product as its volume (quantity) increases, protecting margin and improving efficiency

Volume Pricing in Salesforce – what is it?

It’s an out-of-the-box feature provided by the AppExchange App, Flexpricer, that allows Salesforce users to specify a price to be used for a product when a given quantity is selected or exceeded.

As a related list to the standard Product object, Volume Pricing scales to multiple quantities and includes the capability to limit based on currency and pricebooks.  Additionally, Volume Pricing may be applied on a per-Account basis with Contracted Volume Pricing and across quantity dimensions with Dimensional Quantity Volume Pricing.

Does Volume Pricing support multi-currency?

Yes! Flexpricer supports Salesforce multi-currency and honors all standard Sales Cloud behavior related to products, pricebooks and pricebookentries.

If you org is multi-currency enabled, when the Volume Price record matches the currency of the opportunity, it will be automatically applied (e.g. if the Volume Price record is in USD, then it will be used on an Opportunity/Quote that is USD).

How else can Volume Pricing benefit my business?

  • Drive volume by offering discounts and price improvements as quantities increase
  • Sales users are prompted about the volume prices by an easy-to-read hover that displays on the Quantity field on a line item
  • Automatic application of the updated price / discount shows immediately in the real-time interface
